Drinking Tea

Every morning when I awake
From troubled dreams that my fantasy land makes
Dreams in which I am a Jedi Master
But in reality my life is a disaster
For over twenty years I had a drink
To escape from these mad thoughts I think
Then one day it all became too much
After the holiday from hell where the Jedi lost his touch
To a psychiatrist my friends at work sent me
Hoping that here I would find the key
But the wise man said
Only another Alcoholic can stop you dead
From drinking everyday until you pass out
Drowning out the world without a doubt
So to the AA my advice took me
Where I found many others who enjoyed drinking tea
An alcoholic world they had left behind
But only one day at a time
I was told to let go of the past
If I wanted my new found sobriety to last
And do not worry of the future
But leave to a higher power to structure
Just enjoy the here and now
And try to live in the moment the best I can
Treat each person I meet on life’s journey
As someone sent by God to continue our learning
As I leave behind my old life
These final words act like a light
There is no emotion only peace
There is no ignorance only knowledge
There is no passion only serenity
There is no death only the will of the Force
And now at the end of the day
I lie in bed and continue to pray
Pray that tomorrow I can do better
And try and write a better letter

I won at last

Last Weeks Bowling newsletter here

Excellent weekend, had a walk today over to nearby town of Mirfield with the dogs, Luke and his little brother Lord Farquaad, trying not to spend much because our hols are in just three weeks now.

Yesterday all the practising with Luke on Wednesday night, Thursday Night and in the pouring rain on Friday finally paid of dividends when I won my first match this year 21/17 and Luke got his highest score so far of 13

You can see if you watch my latest bowling video which I completed last night just how much fun it all is this crown green bowling, a sport which is indigenous to the area of Yorkshire.

So its Sunday night and Luke has finished school now for the long holidays, that means its just me getting up early in the morning.

I am quite enjoying writing the newsletters for the bowling team, its brought out that creative side of me again which I have had nothing to channel it into since the disappearance of The Jungle Telegraph.

I have been reading “The Lost Weekend” again on a night, its about a guy called Don Birnam on a five day alcoholic bender and is set in Manhatten in the 1930s.

The story really grips me, the extremes this guy goes to to keep his supply, it used to be a life I always sought oblivion, you cant help but hope this poor bloke gets his hands on some more drink as he carries this typewriter through the streets looking for a pawn shop.

AA again tomorrow night, that is my medicine against ever ending up like Don again, Ill be making the teas with my friend Uncle Buck for our little safe family at Holmfirth, but when I read that book the depth of detail of the author describing the very thoughts that I think sometimes is uncanny.

Well I will go visit some blogs now before my bedtime and heres the poem from one of my newsletters describing my bowling up until this week

Every Saturday I go crown green bowling
I polish and clean my second hand woods
but when I arrive on the damp unlevel green arena
they roll like a bunch of misshaped king Edward spuds.
How much am I short I utter
“You ought to know its closer to you” someone mutters
With my second wood I put more in
Now this one’s in the gutter
Each week I think up more excuses
For the reason I am always the loser
One week too fast, my opponents too good
But nothing I say will make me super
When I practise I have eyes of a tiger
But on Saturday I can’t see for tears of frustration
I just long for the day I win a match
But I will never be the best bowler in the nation!

Remember Me?

After seven consecutive defeats I was dropped this week along with Luke and TB by our Captain, Mr Picard, this gave me the chance to get a lot of footage from the players.
As a result I have enclosed a video of the action which I spent a good few hours editing using Microsoft Movie Maker, its just a shame You tube will no longer let you include current pop songs in the soundtrack.
Last weeks newsletter, Issue 7 of my bowling writing marathon which is keeping me occupied is available here, I am already well into writing Issue 8 ready for next week.
As a result of all this activities my blogging has suffered, anyway who wants to hear about my days at work or playing hide and seek in the woods or even my reception at going carol singing six months early.
With just four weeks to go, I will soon be going on holiday again with a group of close friends and I am starting to look forward to another camping expedition.
It will be my usual Monday AA meeting tommorow, me and my friend Uncle Buck will be organising the teas again like we did last week, I enjoy these humbling jobs but it was Uncle Buck who was the one that offered!
I must aplogise to everyone again for being missing so much from Blogdom, when it gets summer after spending all my workdays in front of a screen I dont want to spend my weekends and nights as well talking about drivers visiting my despatch window.
Not that I would ever give up on my little blog, well its Sunday night after a great game of hide and seek in Bradley Nature reserve I will see you all soon

Thinking Back

With all the furore about Michael Jackson’s recent journey into the next world, I was looking back at his songs and realised many were full of memories in my mind about what I was doing at the time.

I am listening to “Earth Song” as I write this and remember I was living in a tiny back to back rented accommodation, Luke wasn't yet born and I used to love having parties when we got drunk with friends thinking that soon when Luke was born they would have to end but they didn't.

He has had some great anthems during my life, I loved “Will You Be There”, its still one of my favourites, they reckon that this Sunday he might occupy all the top ten positions in the chart, but I guess now with illegal downloading the charts have lost there magic, Michael Jackson was from a time when the pop charts were exciting.

Guess what tonight I have been practising bowling and despite all last weeks practise I did last week I came off with just 5 and Luke did even worse scraping another 2, anyway as ever you can read about it here.

Its been red hot here in the UK this week with temperatures up to 32 degrees Celsius, I have found it real difficult to sleep and as a result felt really tired some days, but tonight we have had a good downpour and its more like typical British weather again.

At work the winner of Junes drivers charts was

Mv May Jun Driver SumOftotal
6 1 DA Greyhound 160008
> 2 2 Burty Basset 141024
5 3 DA Harry Potter 140120
1 4 The Crowman 137860
8 5 ASH003 101700
4 6 DA Stumpy 99440
3 7 Orville 80908
21 8 Tim Terapin 80456
10 9 Obiwan 78180
41 10 Alec R11AWE 54692

DA Greyhound, with the other two “DA’s” at 3 & 6.

I reckon though for us recovering alcoholics our greatest anthem should be “Man In The Mirror”, I really enjoyed this Mondays meeting, the sharer made me feel that old honeymoon magic again of early sobriety.

Anyway its late Friday night now and I am going to get some sleep.
